Successful completion of the deal on GMedia project has allowed National Innovation Fund of Kazakhstan to exit from Advant venture fund with profit of about 50 mln tenge. GMedia is one of the three projects financed by Advant venture fund, which secured high profit with 35% return on investment. It has also recovered shareholders investment in all three projects.

“This is the first example of successful from start to finish classic ‘exit’ from a venture fund in Kazakhstan”, said Chairman of board of JSC National Innovation Fund, Aidyn Kulseitov.

Advant Venture Fund was established in November 2004 between JSC Lancaster Group Kazakhstan (51%) and National Innovation Fund of Kazakhstan (49%).

Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Syrymbet JSC have signed an agreement on financing investment project “Launch of the first stage of tin metal production facilities”. Under the agreement, the bank will grant Syrymbet JSC credit of USD 48,7 mln for the period of 10 years.
The project plans to construct and launch full-cycle production facility which will include mining and processing of tin-bearing ore and producing tin metal. Syrymbet JSC is developing the biggest in Central Asia tin deposit “Syrymbet” located in North Kazakhstan. Equipment for the plant will be purchased in Russia, Kazakhstan and abroad.
The plant with the output of 6 ths of tin metal per year, is due for completion two years after the start of financing. The plant is expected to reach full capacity within a year from the start of operation. The total cost of the project is valued at over USD 70 mln.
Syrymbet project is being implemented within the framework of the State Program on Forced Industrial-Innovative Development of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014. Implementation of this project will help create a new sub-industry of nonferrous metallurgy in the country. The project has strong export-oriented and integration effects: the manufactured product will be able to satisfy existing and growing demand for tin in Kazakhstan, Russia and other CIS countries. It also has a significant multiplier impact on the economy of Russia and Kazakhstan.
EDB estimates that execution of this project will allow – directly and in related industries - create around 3,5 thousand jobs in Kazakhstan and Russia.

The conference is a separate track of the KIMEP International Research Conference and provides an opportunity for academic research and discussions between tax professionals and students of taxation

Lancaster Group Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nurlan Kapparov was invited to participate in a roundtable hosted by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake.
The roundtable took place in Almaty on 14 December and was participated by prominent Kazakhstan entrepreneurs and business leaders to discuss entrepreneurship in the lead up to the Presidential Entrepreneurship Summit, which will be hosted by President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. in the first quarter of 2010. With this roundtable, Assistant Secretary Blake will kick off a series of activities to promote economic opportunity and entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan.

Lancaster Group Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nurlan Kapparov took part in the second US-Kazakhstan Investment Forum that took place on 23-24 November in New York. The forum is an annual event organized with support of Kazakhstan Government and Kazakh Embassy in the USA, to serve as an effective platform that will provide support for investment dialogue and strengthen business cooperation between Kazakhstan and USA. The forum was participated by Kazakh senior delegation represented by the government and business community. Along with Lancaster Group, Kazakhstan business was represented by Visor Capital, Capital Partners, Bank Turan Alem, etc.

Nurlan Kapparov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lancaster Group participated in a roundtable hosted by American Chamber of Commerce on US-Kazakhstan Public-Private Economic Partnership Initiative (PPEPI).
PPEPI is a bilateral initiative between US and Kazakhstan government designed to help improve Kazakhstan’s business environment and support economic development. The program is set on five pillars: economic diversification/SME development; regional economic integration; anti-corruption/rule of law; transparency and economic efficiency; science and technology. Invited by American Chamber of Commerce, Nurlan Kapparov has been actively participating in the program and leads a working group on transparency and economic efficiency.

Boarding school #5 for children with hearing problems has been sponsored by Lancaster Group to acquire a professional football field within the framework of “Daneker” project of Private Charity Fund “DARA”.
The school counts 183 children with hearing problems aged 7-18 years old. It takes special pride in its football team, which has already participated in a number of republican and international competitions. The opening ceremony took place on 25 September at the school and saw participation of The Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan, City Administration (Akimat), Football Federation of Kazakhstan and other. With substantial help from Lancaster Group, the fund raised over 5mln KZT for the implementation of this project.

As part of the company’s Sustainable Development plan for 2009, ERSAI has delivered medical tools for the amount of 501,000 KZT to the regional hospital of Kuryk, Mangystau. The company has been working with the administration of Kuryk hospital for two years and has been actively assisting with purchasing necessary equipment for the hospital.

“I would like to thank ERSAI for our close collaboration of two years. We are proud to say that all projects within the sustainable development of healthcare have been effectively fulfilled by the company”, said B. Toleshev, chief doctor of the hospital.

ERSAI has allocated 28 mln KZT for the implementation of its Sustainable Development plan in 2009.

ERSAI has provided financial support for five local cardiac surgeons of the National Scientific Surgical Centre of A.M. Syzganov to go on training at Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Congenital Heart Disease in Bergamo, Italy. Training of these doctors will help start surgery practice for children with congenital heart disorder and post surgery rehabilitation back home.

ERSAI is proud to contribute to the development of children’s healthcare in Kazakhstan and thanks charity foundations “Dara”, “DOM Miloserdiya” and “Ayala” for the invitation to participate in this project.
