
This year's Olympiad was held in a unique format — online. It was attended by 1006 students from 21 countries, representing 146 teams from Kazakhstan, Australia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The Olympiad jury members also acted as representatives of the participating countries. The uniqueness of the Olympiad lies in the fact that traditionally the competition is held in three subjects at once among specialized schools in physics and mathematics.
The closing ceremony announcing the winners of the 17th International Zhautykov Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science took place in Moscow. Almaty, Kazakhstan, January 13, 2021 at 14:00 in online format. Berik Kaniev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Republican School of Physics and Mathematics, made a congratulatory speech.
“We could not refuse to host our already traditional annual Olympiad due to the pandemic. Talented students from all over the world are potential scientists, doctors and entrepreneurs who will face global challenges in the future. We should have given them the opportunity to work on complex problems in physics, mathematics and computer science at an international competition. The guys did an excellent job and were happy to virtually “visit” Kazakhstan and get to know the culture of our country better,” says Berik Kaniev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NAO RFMS, on his Facebook page.
In total, 500 participants won three subjects, 90 of them won awards of the highest standard. The team of the International Computer School in Bucharest, Romania, won the Grand Prix in the category “Best Olympic School”. The first place went to the Quantum College team in Yerevan, Armenia; the second place went to the teams of the T.Vianu National Higher School of Computer Science, Bucharest, Romania, Physico-Mathematical Lyceum No. 31 in Chelyabinsk, Russia; the third place went to the teams of the Mathematical High School in Belgrade, Serbia, the Lyceum of the Belarusian State University No. 1 in Minsk, the Republic of Belarus and the team of the Sofia Higher Mathematical School “Paisiy Khilendarsky” in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Khusrav Mayusupov, a student from Kanibadam, became the youngest participant, and the best-performing participants in the Mathematics category received the Nurlan Kapparov Prize of the same name from the Nurlan Kapparov Public Foundation, the Adilet Imambekov Prize in the Physics category and the Ilya Segalovich Prize in the Computer Science category. They were Alexandru Luchianov in Bucharest, Romania; Matvey Knyazev in Dolgoprudny, Russia; Igor Pylaev in Kharkiv, Ukraine and Stoika Avrilium Vijaya in Tangerang, Indonesia.
As part of the Olympiad, an exhibition of universities in Kazakhstan and other countries is traditionally held. Astana IT University and the Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) provided full study grants to all winners of the International Zhautykov Graduate School Olympiad.
The Zhautykov International Olympiad is held annually with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Scientific and Practical Center “Daryn”. The Olympics have been sponsored by the Lancaster Group, the Fizmat Endowment Fund and the Nurlan Kapparov Foundation for several years.
