The Almaty Choreographic School named after A.V. Seleznev celebrated its 85 anniversary!

On 12 May 2019, the Almaty Choreographic School named after A.V. Seleznev celebrated its 85 anniversary. The School alumni being among soloists of Astana Opera, Astana Ballet, the Kazakh State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Abay, the State Academy Dance Theatre named after Bulat Ayukhanov, numerous theatres in Austria, Hungary, Germany as well as the School guests from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Yakutia, Buryatia, and Bashkortostan greeted the School and congratulated it with this landmark occasion.

In celebration of the day it has been decided to film a documentary on history and activities of the School. The management of Lancaster Group Kazakhstan JSC has resolved to organize and finance the documentary making.

The Almaty Choreographic School named after Alexander Seleznev is a “Golden Cradle” of Kazakhstan choreography. The School has offered basic choreographic education to ballet dancers and dance ensembles for 85 years. Now Lyudmila Munsekovna Li is the School Artistic Director. She graduated from the School in 1969. Lyudmila Munsekovna was also a principal dancer at the Kazakh State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Abay (1969-1989), a resource specialist of the Specialty Courses Department (2003-2007), and now she is a teacher of classical dance and the Artistic Director at the Almaty Choreographic School named after A.V. Seleznev. Lyudmila Munsekovna is the Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1986), the Honored Educator of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2005), the holder of the Order of Kurmet (2010) and Enbek Ardageri Medal (Veteran of Labor) (2016).

Now one can surely say that the Almaty Choreographic School named after A.V. Seleznev takes its rightful top position among leading ballet schools in the world and is the best school in the Central Asia. This fact is evidenced by the opinions of numerous world ballet specialists who note in a single voice the achievements of the Kazakhstan choreographic education being a modern culture benchmark.

The documentary film is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Almaty Choreographic School named after Alexander Seleznev. The film traces the School history and focuses on its current activities. How does this oldest Kazakhstan institution live today? What people work here? The older, medium and young generations meticulously work every day to create future ballet stars. This video is about self-forgetful efforts of all “Seleznyevka’s” team.
